New reading challenge badges - how many can you collect?

by Mrs Toerien on 2023-11-08T16:02:00+00:00 in Recreational reading | 0 Comments

This year, as well as receiving a Principal's Commendation and being able to complete a task on their Diploma when they complete a Reading Challenge, Y7&8 also get a special badge to wear on their blazers. There are seven badges to collect relating to the seven different challenges. See the blog post It's a Challenge, below, to read about the individal challenges.

Our first four students received their badges this week:

  • Gethin (7JW) achieved the Superstar Reviewer award by writing three book reviews for our Seniors and Sixth Form Book of the Week Blog (and has also read six books towards the ambitious Culturally Curious challenge of twenty books that he has set himself);
  • Emi (7HB) completed the Build Your Own award by reading twelve books;
  • Amy (7JW) also finished a Build Your Own award by reading six Harry Potter books; and
  • Holly (8GR) achieved the Culturally Curious award by reading ten books from our Cultural Diversity collection, which celebrates many different sorts of diversity, including books about different cultures or originally written in other languages, as well as books about people who are physically, socially or neurologically different from the reader.

With thirty four books read between them since September from a wide variety of genres, our first four challenge finishers this year thoroughly deserve their badges and we know that many more Y7 and 8 readers will soon follow in their footsteps.
