Aiming Higher!

The Y10 Higher Project Qualification was in full swing this week! Mr Bezuidenhout (CEO of Aurigny) kindly agreed to do a Teams interview with James to support his project on whether long to medium haul flights are commercially viable for the Channel Islands. James was exceptionally well-prepared and made excellent use of the 40-minute interview, which gave him a fascinating insight into the important commercial and social considerations that drive Aurigny’s strategy. We are very grateful to Mr Bezuidenhout for his time.

Daniella has been planning and piloting her experiment for her Psychology-based HPQ and will be visiting some Y7 and Y9 groups during Tutor time over the next couple of weeks to ask them to do a simple experiment to inform her research. Meanwhile Sam is working hard on his painting of St Peter Port in the style of Paul Klee, Marguerite is digging into the question of whether the Royal Shakespeare Company should receive government funding, and Jack is busy planning his experiments on the effects of Brain Endurance Training on physical strength and/or stamina.

We believe that Blanchelande is the only school on Guernsey currently offering the HPQ programme, which rests both on the foundation of inquiry skills developed through our Y9 Signature Work inquiry, and on our excellent understanding of and support for the Projects Qualifications developed through our Extended Project Qualification provision at A-level. Our pioneering group of HPQ students are well on their way to producing an inspiring range of projects, blazing a trail for Y9, who showed significant interest in the HPQ at their options evening on Tuesday.
