Looking forward to Guernsey Book Week

We are delighted to be welcoming award-winning author Christopher Edge to visit Y6,7&8 on Monday February 26th. The current Y6 pupils and those who were at Blanchelande last year will know Christopher's work from The Infinite Lives of Maisie Day, which they read in forms as a backdrop to their Signature Work inquiry. Maisie Day is an exciting and mysterious Science-rich fiction adventure about a girl who suddenly finds her world shifting and changing around her in inexplicable and frightening ways.

Christopher has written a wide range of books with something for many different tastes, from the Science-rich fiction to Victorian murder mysteries to zombie apocalypse thrillers and we are all looking forward to hearing him speak, possibly about his upcoming book Black Hole Cinema Club.

Engaging with visiting authors is such an important part of children's reading experiences and it can be really inspiring learning how the words made it out of someone's imagination and onto the page - maybe Christopher will be able to inspire some budding authors of the next generation...

For those who love to express themselves thorugh costume, we are giving Y7&8 the opportunity to dress as literary heroes and villains for the day on Monday February 26th. The more imaginative the better! Those who want to enter their costumes into our costume competition should then choose a short passage from their book (less than one minute - one paragraph is plenty) to represent their character and come up to the Library at lunchtime on that day and read their pragraph to the Library. I hope this picture of last year's winners will inspire you!

Finally, the Guille Alles library are running a competition to design a backpack that you would take with you into a dangerous escape room. What would you take? Y7&8 students can download the form from their class Englisg team (or collect a paper copy from the library). The island winners in each year group will receive a £10 book token and a signed copy of one of Christopher Edge's books. Completed entries should be returned to the Senior Library (or to Y6 class teachers) by Tuesday February 20th.

With all of this excitement, it promises to be a fantastic half term for reading - and that's before we get onto World Book Day on March 7th. Watch this space for news of the exciting World Book Day competitions, £1 books, vouchers and events!
