The Maze Runner by James Dashner

by Mrs Toerien on November 18th, 2024 in Recreational reading | 0 Comments

James Dashner is an American writer known for his fiction books, especially The Maze Runner series. The first book (published October 6, 2009) sparked an 11 year journey writing the series, and watching his films come to life with the help of Wes Ball, the director of the Maze Runner films.

The first book is about a boy called Thomas, who was mysteriously sent up into the middle of a maze, meeting a large group of boys in the same situation, with no means of escape, or so they thought. Thomas becomes increasingly curious about the place, but does he save him and the boys?

I thought the book was very encouraging for people to become more curious about the world around them, and see what they can do for others, instead of sitting back and going with the flow. I would recommend this book for any young inquisitive readers.

Impossible Creatures by Katherine Rundell

by Mrs Toerien on June 21st, 2024 in Recreational reading | 0 Comments

This enchanting tale takes the audience into a fantasy world where mythological animals and real characters come into contact with each other. Rundell masters the art of weaving a story and paints a picture that is as marvelous as it is dangerous to the readers of the story. Impossible Creatures not only has a fascinating concept but also an emotional core and encourages one to be amazed at the world’s adventures (Rundell, 2023). This is an adorable and insightful story due to Rundell’s gift for writing adventure books. Rundell builds a rich and fascinating world for fans of fantasy and adventure.
