Excellent though this book is, I am not accepting any more reviews of it to publish on the blog. Three is plenty! - Mrs Toerien

We like Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief because it is an adventure book. In this book Zeus thinks Percy has stolen his lightning bolt. The themes of this book are self-discovery, friendship, self-confidence and adventure. In this book, Percy discovers he is the son of Poseidon, and must go on a quest to save his mother from the underworld. We would rate this book 8+ and 5 stars. This book is from New York times bestseller Rick Riordan.

This is a book about a boy who is a demigod. He doesn’t know that at first, but through the story he is finding out who he is. If you love reading books about a thrilling adventure that is daring and dangerous then this is the book for you. I love the way this book grips you into the story and has attention to detail. Percy's teacher is not who he thinks, nothing is as it seems, Percy's friend Grover is an undercover demigod, and everything is going wrong. But Percy is being challenged to see if he can cope. I would say that this is one of my favourite books but if you like it doesn’t stop there is a whole series.

We are using this book as our topic in English, and it is the first book of the five-book series.

It is about a boy named Percy, who finds out that he is the son of an ancient Greek God. After that shocker, he gets led to a training camp called Camp Half-Blood. It is a camp where half-bloods train to fight mysterious monsters, ones that Percy never realised were real.  He then gets accused of stealing Zeus’s lightning bolt, and to prove his innocence he must go on a dangerous, life-risking quest to retrieve it…

I think it is suitable for 11 year olds and I like the chatty writing style.
