Death Note is a popular thriller and murder mystery anime. When Japanese highschooler Light Yagami, finds a notebook labelled ‘death note', dropped by a God of death from the Shinigami realm, he discovers that whoever’s name he writes down in it is killed. He decides to use this book for what is ‘good’ in his eyes. My favourite character is L, the mysterious and intelligent international detective who works with the Japanese task force to find and catch Light Yagami, whom they know only as Kira. I really liked how the story twisted and turned, and you could never expect what was going to happen next. My favourite part of the book was when Light tricked Raye Penber into giving him his own name and the name of the other American FBI agents that had travelled to Japan to find him. I also enjoyed that it was in a way from an almost ‘villain’s’ perspective, which gave a dark side to the story. However, I do think this book is more aimed at teenagers who enjoy murder books, and psychological thrillers. Reviewed by M.Domaille, Y9 |
